Subsistence exploration of sari village, district Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, India

Abstract: District Rudraprayag of the state of Uttarakhand in India has rich cultural traditions and heritage. The main towns of the district are cosmopolitan and its people are associated with various religions and sets living through generations. Broadly, eighty percent of the population follows Hindu religion. The majority of the population follows Kumaoni traditions. Here, the marriages are mostly arranged by the parents after tallying horoscopes. The main functions of marriages are Suwal Pathai, Dhuliargh, Kanya-Daan, Phere, Vida. Here, the highest peak is Baudhansthali at 2623 Mt in the hilly region, also known as Krol by geologists. The lower area is named Bhabhar, derived from the tall grasses of the region. The nearest city is Nainital which has various tourist spots namely Snow-view Point, Naini Lake, Mall Road, Sariyatal Lake. The study village-Sari has a history of about 400 years old. The ‘Sari’ is a Hindi language word meaning ‘everywhere’. The name of the village came about as Sari has fields around it everywhere. The village is rich in wheat fields, apple and peach orchards, and its boundaries are lined with bright-coloured Rhododendrons and Oak trees- A regular site on the Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek. The village consists of about 150 households and has 784 persons.
