Abstract: This study presents a detailed morphometric analysis of the South Vellar Watershed in Pudukkottai district, Tamil Nadu, employing GIS-based techniques. Digital drainage layers were created from topographic maps to evaluate linear, areal, and relief aspects of the basin. Parameters such as stream order, bifurcation ratio, drainage density, basin shape indices, relief, and ruggedness were computed to understand the geomorphic and hydrological characteristics. The results indicate a predominantly parallel drainage pattern, moderate stream frequency, and coarse drainage density, suggesting youthful stage development with controlled lithological influences. The basin exhibits low elongation and high permeability, facilitating flatter flood peaks and easier flood management. The analysis provides insights into the basin's geomorphic stability, hydrological response, and potential for sustainable water resource management.
