Impacts of landslides on the national highway-102 (Imphal-Moreh): An analytical study
Author(s): Seiyang Baite
Abstract: This study seeks to highlight the ongoing issue of recurrent landslides on National Highway 102, which extends from Imphal to Moreh. This highway has recently been expanded and constructed as part of an Asian National Highway, a collaborative initiative involving countries in Asia and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific to enhance regional connectivity. Nevertheless, this road connection is frequently interrupted by natural disasters, including landslides, mudflows, earthflows, and debris flows, which happen due to the force of gravity. Landslides have been happening regularly on this highway for many years, causing major disruptions to human travel, particularly during the rainy season, while also significantly affecting the daily business operations of residents in this area. Consequently, this paper aims to emphasize aspects that may assist in developing an effective solution to address the internal and external factors that frequently interrupt the usual movement of travel and the transportation of goods on this national highway.
